Whoo! What a mouthful of a title! Welcome to my inaugural 'first taste' review. This is a video review because I've never actually had this candy before. There's no sense in videotaping my reactions to a candy I've had before, so this honour will be reserved for first timers.
I spotted the Jones carbonated sours last week in the campus coffee shop/convenience store. This multipurpose store sells an eclectic assortment of goodies. The Jones stuff was prominently displayed along with various other unique candies. I got a bit of sticker shock when it was rung up: $2.50!
If you're not familiar with the Jones Soda Co., they're an independent company out of Seattle. Since about 1995, they've been making a wide variety of interesting carbonated beverages. Recently, they've moved into other types of products such as lip gloss, frozen novelties and, yes, carbonated candy.
After my review, I ate several more of the candies (hey, I am a sour freak!). I noticed there's a very chemical-y aftertaste that lingered in my mouth. It's not going away. The carbonation has also scratched my tongue. It's not as bad as Skittles Sour, but it's still apparent. After three or four of them, I lost all the subtlety of fruit punch in the flavour.
THE SOUR LINE:
The Jones Spiked Punch candy is not all that sour. It's more of a sweet tart-ish flavour with a carbonated kick. This candy seems to be all gimmick and little substance and its unpleasant aftertaste leaves a lot to be desired.
