A 0 would be gummi bears, strawberry mallows or anything else with no sour to it whatsoever.
A 1, 2, 3 or 4 candy would be something that is naturally tart, such as a green apple or lemon.
Candies in the 5, 6 or 7 range can rightfully be called 'sour.' A candy will never achieve this rating unless it makes me pull a face the first time I pop it into my mouth. In this range would be Cherry Blasters, SweeTarts and Sour Patch Kids.
8 or 9 range candies are sour gems - the kind of pucker only a true fan could endure. These include SweeTart Shockers and Sour Skittles.
10-range candies are nearly impossible to keep in your mouth. The only candy I've ever encountered that fits this category are the first few seconds of some flavours of Warheads. The goal of my reviews is not to judge the candies for their culinary merit, but for their pucker power. There's a lot of sites out there that do a better job than I ever could exploring the virtues of all sorts of candy. My specialty is sour. It's what I know and what I love!

How would you rate some of the Altoids brand such as tangerine or green apple on your scale?
I haven't actually had those yet (that I can recall). I'll put them on my list and post a full review!
I find it rather disagreeable that you would rate some candies, such as SweeTarts or Sour Patch Kids over natural sours. Granted, we have in our capacity to create the ultimate sour, I believe you are underestimating nature's ability. Have you ever partaken of a fresh picked, Central American Lime? I am also a huge fan of sour flavors and I absolutely could not eat the entire lime, despite the fact that I regularly eat lemons and limes for snacks back in the good ol' USA.
I am from Honduras C.A and our small, tiny and green lemons are the best in the world, pretty sour,I want one now.
