Okay, so these aren't sours, but they're so strange I just couldn't resist. So from time to time, I'll review non-sour candies that are unusual or just plain fun.
If you've never had a mini egg before, they're one of the great wonders of the Valentines/Easter candy season. The outside is a sweet, milky candy shell. The inside is smooth milk chocolate that's not too sweet or bitter. With this particular variety...the inside is...pop rocks! I have to admit, it made me giggle. There's no flavour at all to the pop rocks, which is good because I couldn't imagine the traditional fruit flavours working with the chocolate.
One thing that I'd recommend is that you not bite into the eggs. Suck on 'em and crackle away! These are all the fun of pop rocks without the sugary mess (and with added chocolatey goodness!). It's sort of like biting into a Hershey bar while you already have pop rocks on your tongue. It's not a bad thing, it's just a bit odd (and fun!). It's definitely a novelty candy. I wouldn't keep buying these over regular mini eggs, but it sure did make me feel like a kid again! I wonder if the pop urban legend applies to these, too?
Happy Eastertines!
