Considering regular Sour Skittles are a benchmark on my sour rating system I was quite excited when I saw these Double Sour Skittles. I checked into it and no, these aren't just regular sours with an extra coating. Supposedly they have two layers. They come in five flavours:
Watermelon: Smells like strawberry bubbalicious. Tastes like watermelon! A very nice watermelon flavour like you'd expect from Skittles. Not overly sour! It's got a dusting, but it fades quickly.
Lemon: Again, very brief sour flavour and then a nice lemon Skittle. Disappointed so far!
Green Apple: Yet again! Brief sour flavour followed by a...green apple Skittle
Blue Raspberry: I...frankly love this non-existent flavour, so I'm hopeful. It's really tasty, but it's not sour! Gasp!
Strawberry: Yet again, really nice flavour and a very brief sour taste.
What's up, Skittles?! I'm going to have to revisit regular Sour Skittles to see if they toned down the recipe. Last time I had them they were both messy and ridiculously, deliciously sour. This time they're barely even tart. The sweetness of the underlying Skittle overpowers any pucker. I suspect that 'super sour' is just an excuse for another set of Skittles flavours also with a sour dusting. I would say this definitely isn't truth in advertising.
THE SOUR LINE
Disappointed! So very, very disappointed. Regular Sour Skittles are much more sour. Sure, the flavours are nice, but that's not the point. Unless you love normal Skittles, I'd say these are a pass. They're good, but they're definitely not something the sour fan would rave over. What's up with the candy world, man? Seems like everyone and their mother is labeling things 'super sour' for no good reason!

Hey Robin! Cool site - I *love* Skittles but haven't seen the sour ones! I'm going to keep a look out for them. Anyway, today I bought Real Fruit Sours and since Real Fruit gummies are so good, I thought I'd try them (they're new). I won't tell you what I think of them in case you haven't tried them yet, but you should pick up a bag to review.
The first batch of Double Sours I tried were exactly like what you've said here. Then I tried another bag about a month later and WOAH were they sour. Since then I've had a couple of bags and they were extremely sour too. My favourites are the ones that get stuck in the bottom in the sour powder and have an extra thick coating of it. Mmm mouth-bleedingly tasty.
Ps-Great blog!
